Ansonia officials report Nolan Field progress, public works updates and OK technology assessment

City staff and department heads gave a series of operational updates at the Board of Aldermen meeting on Oct. 14, reporting that Nolan Field’s opening night went smoothly and that major field work is nearing completion.
Joseph Yalman updated aldermen that Field B (soccer/secondary football) and the Little League softball field are essentially complete, with portable bleachers, a press box and a scoreboard expected soon. Yalman said electrical work that would fully connect the scoreboard and permanent systems will be scheduled at the end of the sports season to avoid shutting the facility down mid-season. "Field B is complete… the scoreboard is set to be delivered this week," he said.
Public works follow-ups include permanent fencing, dugout deliveries for the high school field and finish work on walkways and storage sites. Yalman also urged aldermen to approve a technology and cyber-risk assessment proposal from UHY to identify vulnerabilities and lay out a multi-year modernization plan; the board voted unanimously to accept the flat-fee proposal (packet listed the fee at $10,000).
Police Chief Wayne Williams reported staffing updates: two officers in field training, one in the academy, six open positions under testing and additional dispatch hiring in process; he said police coverage for recent events, including the Harvest Festival, went well and that Halloween coverage planning is underway.
What happens next: staff will install remaining field fixtures, finish electrical hookups in the off-season, proceed with the IT assessment and provide monthly construction and operations updates to the board.
