Library staff reported several community services and a staffing transition during the April period.
The city librarian said the library served as a drop-off hub for a special election, collecting 602 ballots via its drop box and 246 ballots on-site on election day. The library also completed a tax-preparation series for South Bay residents with household incomes of $67,000 or less; staff said sessions were full and feedback was positive.
The library held an inaugural Easter egg hunt that staff described as successful: more than 3,500 eggs were hidden across library locations and roughly 150 participants joined the event. Staff thanked volunteers who helped hide eggs and manage the event.
On staffing, the city librarian reported that City Manager Ben left in April. The director of public works, Steve Manganiello, briefly took over responsibilities, and the city plans to undertake a nationwide recruitment for the city manager position. The librarian said she discussed that recruitment at a council meeting the prior night.
The board thanked staff for programming and outreach. The next board meeting is scheduled for June 4.
