Rahway council appoints Carla Timmons to Third Ward seat

Carla Timmons was sworn in as Rahway’s Third Ward councilwoman after the City Council adopted a resolution filling the vacancy at its May 4 meeting.
Timmons took the oath of office on the council dais and repeated the pledge to “support the Constitution” and “faithfully perform all the duties of Third Ward council member,” concluding the oath with, “So help me God.” After the oath colleagues offered congratulations and welcomed her back to the governing body.
Council members used the moment to pay tribute to longtime Third Ward representative Vannie Parson, calling her a trailblazer and thanking her for years of service. The council then returned to the regular agenda, including the consent calendar and several ordinances and bond measures.
The resolution to fill the seat (AR-121-206) was moved and seconded and approved by roll call. No formal motions to reconsider the appointment were made; Timmons immediately joined her colleagues at the dais following the oath.
Next steps: Timmons will serve in the Third Ward seat as specified by the adopted resolution and the council continues with regularly scheduled business. The council also scheduled the first-reading public hearing for a land-sale ordinance (O-14-26) for June 8, 2026.
