The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt amended resolutions and updated bylaws for the county's citizens advisory boards (CABs).
Staff member Jen Gustafson said the changes align CAB resolutions with county code by specifying each CAB's purpose, membership (five regular members and up to two alternates) and GIS‑mapped boundaries so that each CAB falls entirely within a single commissioner district. The updates expand or adjust CAB boundaries so previously unserved residential “islands” are included and attach maps to the resolutions for online viewing.
Candy Ramos (commissioner support team) described a communications plan that includes email blasts, social media posts, Nextdoor targeting, press releases and a short promotional video produced with Associate Productions to publicize expanded CAB boundaries and recruit members. Commissioners discussed outreach to neighborhoods newly added to districtwide CAB boundaries and training requirements for trustees.
The board also adopted updated CAB bylaws and general provisions that reflect changes since the bylaws were last updated in 2015; staff said the public comment portal yielded extensive input incorporated into the redlined draft. The motions to adopt both the resolutions and the bylaws carried unanimously.
