Mills County supervisors approve contracts, renovations and a sheriff vehicle amid one dissent

The board also approved a driveway variance for 23090 Cattail Bend Rd (Ayes-3, Nays-0).
Sheriff Greg Schultz asked the board to approve purchase of a 2026 Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicle from Red Oak Chrysler for $30,769 (including dealership credits). That purchase passed on a roll call vote Ayes-2, Nays-1, with Supervisor Jack Sayers recorded as the sole dissent.
The board approved a request to use Opioid settlement funds for educational items for community outreach not to exceed $3,200 (Ayes-3, Nays-0).
Facilities Coordinator Chad Rasmussen presented a Blum Brothers bid to renovate the Clerk of Courts office for $70,150; Supervisor Sayers moved to amend the motion to include window and exterior repairs increasing the total to $91,650. The amended bid passed by roll call Ayes-3, Nays-0.
Auditor Amber Farnan requested and the board approved a three-year contract with Cost Advisory Services, Inc. for fiscal years 2026–2028 at $4,450 per year (Ayes-3, Nays-0). Treasurer Melissa Loghry’s recommendation to abate $30.00 in penalty and admin costs for a taxpayer (Resolution 26-17) was approved (Ayes-3, Nays-0). The board also unanimously approved Resolution 26-18 supporting the Home Base Iowa initiative and declaring Mills County a Home Base Iowa County.
Where roll-call details were recorded, the minutes named Supervisor Jack Sayers as the lone dissent on the sheriff vehicle purchase; other recorded votes were unanimous. The board adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
