The Silver Springs Advisory Board met April 6, 2026, at the Silver Springs Senior Center and unanimously approved its meeting agenda and the minutes from March 2. Ammon Terpening moved to adopt the agenda, Nancy Broughton seconded and the motion passed 5‑0; Terpening later moved to approve the March minutes, Andrea Bellman seconded and that motion passed 5‑0.
Capt. Cody Mandiville of the Central Lyon County Fire Department announced a Wildfire Preparedness Day scheduled for May 2 at 10 a.m. in Stagecoach. Mandiville said the event will include demonstrations, training and opportunities to meet firefighters. The department’s chief announced the fire district plans to seek a conditional‑use permit from the Lyon County Commissioners to install a helipad and bring a helicopter to support emergency transport; the board did not take action on that plan at the meeting.
Commissioners Hendrix and Keller reported brief county updates. They discussed the Rural Energy Academy workforce development initiative intended to keep jobs local, noted recent zone changes approved for Mark Twain Park and other zoning activity in Fernley, and said the tentative county budget includes funds to refinish floors at the Silver Springs Senior Center.
During public participation, a commenter noted Commissioner Keller is running for re‑election and an event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8. Timothy Banks said the VA is “under ‘ambits umbrella’ to help avoid getting shut down,” and Annmarie Brairly said Microsoft is “working on new policies for IP misuse and taking data centers to space.” Those comments were listed as public comment and were not acted on by the board.
Chair Adam McGuire adjourned the meeting at 7:36 p.m. The fire department’s helipad plan will proceed through the county permitting process; no formal vote or board direction on the helipad was recorded at this meeting.
