Oak Brook board approves $766,770 HVAC contract for Family Aquatic Center; rejects pool-deck bid

On Feb. 20 the Oak Brook Park District Board of Commissioners approved a not-to-exceed contract of $766,770 with C. Acitelli Heating & Piping Contractors, Inc. for HVAC replacement at the Family Aquatic Center and voted to reject a separate pool-deck bid that exceeded the district’s budget.
The HVAC award covers a $756,000 base bid and $10,770 for alternate HVAC controls. President Knitter acknowledged the cost, saying the work "is costly but is something that needs to be addressed." Deputy Director Dave Thommes told the board the unit has a roughly 36-week lead time and said the aquatic center would not be closed for the entire construction period.
Staff explained the pool-deck bid was over budget; the board voted to reject that bid and Dr. Laure Kosey said the district will reissue the pool-deck project for bidding next year.
Why it matters: the HVAC replacement addresses infrastructure critical to year-round pool operations and patron comfort; rejecting the pool-deck bid delays that improvement until a subsequent bidding cycle.
