Commission approves ordinance to vacate downtown alley after resident support

The Mulberry City Commission approved Ordinance ORD-235-08 on a 5-0 vote to vacate a portion of an unopened alley in Block 4 of the Knowles Addition, as recorded in plat book 33, page 27 of Polk County public records.

At the public hearing, resident Lisa Raul said she and neighbors had received notice of a proposed alley vacation tied to Greater Hope Church and formally expressed support for the church's request. "We are here today to express our support for Greater Hope Church and their request for alley vacation," Raul said, adding that neighbors plan to submit their own petition asking the city to close the entire alley because it has not been maintained.

City staff reminded speakers to limit comments to the ordinance before the commission; the manager explained that alley and plat applications are circulated to planning staff, Polk County Fire and utilities so departments can review potential impacts.

After the public hearing closed, the commission moved to roll call and the vice mayor announced the motion passed 5-0.
