At its June 4 and June 24 2024 meetings the Board of Commissioners of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County approved several routine motions and resolutions by unanimous vote.
Employee insurance renewal: Commissioner Jason Frost moved to accept the new fee schedule for employee insurance; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Georgia Forestry annual agreement & Fire Tower Agreement: The commission approved an annual agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission and adopted a specific Fire Tower Agreement authorizing a county payment not to exceed $4,738.58 per contract period for a temporary fire tower operator. The contract term stated in the agreement runs July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025 and may be terminated on 30 days' notice.
Reappointments to LRCTA: The board reappointed Commissioner Timothy Biddle (term through June 30, 2028) and Commissioner Gerald Douglas (term through June 30, 2026) to the Lower Chattahoochee Regional Transportation Authority via resolution.
GA HWY 520 roundabout grant: The commission approved acceptance of a roundabout grant for the GA Highway 520 project. County Manager Weaver noted the grant requires a 40/60 cost match and that the county’s share would not exceed $52,000 if required to cover utility moves; the project timeline was discussed with an anticipated October activity window for utility relocation.
Solid waste contracts discussed: At the June 24 work session the board reviewed three solid waste proposals — GFL ($20/month; $5 per tire), Jones Sanitation ($23.50/month) and Zero Waste ($25.52/month) — and directed staff to add awarding the contract to the July agenda. Weaver said the vendor arrangement would be a one‑year contract that can auto‑renew for up to three years. Commissioner Timothy Biddle raised concerns about a cardboard compactor and said GFL offered a cheaper replacement solution previously; the board directed staff to follow up in the next meeting.
Other approvals: The commission approved a Georgia Forestry annual agreement and several routine minutes and work session actions at the June 4 regular meeting; meetings and executive session affidavits documenting closed‑session topics and retention of in‑camera minutes were filed in accordance with Georgia law.
Next steps: Items slated for future action include the solid waste contract award, conditional use permit consideration (property at 110 Stagecoach requested by Commissioner Damon Hoyte) and any budget amendment requests that departments bring forward.
