The Southington Board of Finance used its special meeting to complete organizational business, approve several appropriations and authorize a contingency transfer to cover legal fees tied to a Planning & Zoning administrative appeal.
John Leary was nominated and elected chair on a motion that also set a two‑year arrangement to rotate the chair and vice chair midterm (the rotation to take effect on or about Nov. 14, 2026). The motion to appoint Leary as chair and to name the first‑year officers passed unanimously.
The board approved the consent agenda as a single package. The items read into the record included appropriations for donations and grants: $10,000 for special revenue officer safety supplies (donation), $10,997.28 for police vehicle repairs (insurance claim), $26,131 for a Department of Children and Families youth services supplemental grant, $6,450 for holiday events donations, $10,500 for an additional DCF youth services grant, and $7,141.50 for the Youth Amplify Project (Project GO904). The motion to approve consent agenda items 1–6 carried by voice vote.
On administrative business, the board approved a contingency transfer of $50,000 to planning and zoning legal fees related to an administrative appeal by 3 Squared LLC that has been transferred to the Hartford Land Court. The motion passed 6–0. Finance staff noted the transfer would come from contingency and that the town has limited specialized counsel for such appeals.
Other items: the board adopted a 2026 meeting schedule (third Wednesday of each month) to better align reporting deadlines with the finance office, and received an informational letter that CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) will conduct the FY25 audit. The meeting adjourned at 8:39 p.m.
