Planning Board opens public hearing for Durham Heights subdivision; no oral public comment

On March 4, 2026, the Town of Durham Planning Board opened a public hearing on the preliminary plan for the Durham Heights Subdivision, an application by Stonex Construction LLC for property at 439 Meeting House Road.

"The purpose of this public hearing is to receive oral and written testimony relevant to the board's review of this application under the town's adopted ordinances and standards," the chair said as the board opened the hearing and reviewed ground rules for testimony.

Planning staff noted that the owner's representative is Site Lines and that the board's authority for this hearing is limited to whether the application meets the town's subdivision standards. Staff also told the board that, unless the parties agree to an extension, the board must act within 30 days of the public hearing. "You will need to make a decision at the next meeting, just within 30 days of the public hearing," planning staff said.

After announcing a roughly seven-minute time limit for speakers, the chair invited public comment. No members of the public rose to speak; a board member moved to close oral public comment and the chair closed that portion of the hearing. Board members confirmed that written comments, if submitted, will be made available to the board and the public.

Staff and the chair confirmed the calendar and filing deadlines: the board's next regular meeting is scheduled for April 1, and the deadline for materials related to this application is March 25. Applicants were told they may request an extension before the next meeting if needed.

Next steps: the board will consider the application at its next meeting; if the board does not make a decision within the 30-day window and no extension is agreed, state or local rules could require further procedural steps. Written testimony already submitted will be included in the record.
