Melissa Mach, the board member who had earlier voted against the draft, said she dissented because she was concerned residents would be blocked from short‑notice rentals if every request had to wait for select board approval. "We're not going to them for every single little, you know, thing in town that requires someone to make a decision," Mach said, arguing that granting the conservation commission authority for one‑day rentals "is bringing into this day to day operation" and would prevent lost rental opportunities.
Several members said clarification of the term "short term" made them more comfortable supporting the article. Brian said the town administrator or another town office could handle routine approvals, while Adam and other members argued the select board should retain final oversight. Chair said that after hearing the clearer definition he "changed my opinion" and moved for favorable action.
The motion for favorable action passed on a roll‑call vote: Melissa Mach, Mark, Jim, Brian and the Chair voted yes; Adam voted no, producing a 5–1 outcome. Rebecca said she would update the warrant to indicate favorable action, post it April 9 and distribute copies to board members and the public website.
The recommendation will go to town meeting on April 27. The board did not take additional formal steps beyond changing its recommendation and posting the warrant.
