Audubon County supervisors approve multiple wage resolutions, hire custodian and award LE-8 bridge contract

The Audubon County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously May 19 to approve multiple personnel wage resolutions, hire a full-time custodian/maintenance worker and move forward on the LE-8 bridge replacement project.
The board approved Resolution 2026-29 setting Sarah Irlbeck’s County Attorney’s Office legal assistant wage at $27.25 per hour and Resolution 2026-30 setting Tiffany Henkle’s legal assistant wage at $26.40 per hour, both effective July 1, 2026. Supervisors also approved Resolution 2026-32 to hire Shawn Deist as a full-time Custodian/Maintenance employee, with a start date of May 26, 2026 and an initial rate of $24.04 per hour (scheduled to increase to $24.76 on July 1). The board stated it will finalize the position’s job description and schedule by the end of May.
Engineer Mitch Rydl briefed the board on construction and maintenance activity and asked for action on personnel and projects. The board approved Non-Union FY27 wage adjustments under Resolution 2026-31, which set new salaries and hourly rates for a set of engineering and roadside positions (listed in the official resolution).
On infrastructure, the board voted to approve the contract and performance bond for the LE-8 Bridge Replacement project and scheduled a preconstruction meeting for the project. Supervisors also approved utility permits for Kinetic (US Highway 71) and MidAmerican Energy (130th Street).
Financially, the board approved claims submitted by county departments totaling $1,096,634.45 and set a public hearing for the FY26 Budget Amendment #2 on June 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The auditor was directed to publish notice in the local newspaper. No votes were taken on a proposed ACED FY26 allocation during the meeting.
The meeting minutes and all wage and hiring resolutions passed by unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
