Macomb committee advances ban on vape vending machines in liquor establishments

City Attorney Scalf said the proposal "indicates that we will not allow that within our community," explaining the draft mirrors state statute and was prompted by inquiries about whether automated vape dispensers were permitted in town.
Alderman Vazquezi said he supported the measure because, in establishments where patrons must be 21 to enter, unmanned vending devices make it difficult to ensure purchasers are of legal age and effective carding by staff is preferable to unsupervised machines.
Council members noted a vendor had asked a business owner to install one of the devices in a licensed premise; Scalf confirmed the draft responds to that situation by prohibiting such installations.
What happens next: The ordinance was placed on the council agenda for second reading and final action at next week’s council meeting.
