Redmond awards $917,036 contract for NW 19th and NW Maple traffic signal project

The Redmond City Council moved to award a construction contract for a new traffic signal at the intersection of NW 19th Street and NW Maple Avenue.
Julie Thiessen, the city’s project manager for the work, said the scope includes converting a current four‑way stop to a signalized intersection, building new sidewalks and ADA ramps on all legs of the intersection and installing a new pavement section. Bids opened April 10; Thiessen said four firms submitted responsive bids and the lowest responsive bidder was Taylor Northwest LLC at $917,036, compared with an engineer’s estimate of about $1,233,000. Thiessen said the contract requires traffic control plans be submitted for review and that staff will emphasize safe pedestrian access during school periods.
Councilors asked about lane closures and detours; Thiessen said the contract includes traffic control submittals, review by the city traffic group and streets, and that staff will require contractors to provide safe pedestrian passage. She said the project is scheduled to start in June and must be completed by December, though construction will be intermittent while crews wait on long‑lead items.
Council moved and seconded the award to Taylor Northwest LLC; the motion passed by voice vote. Funding will come from transportation system development charge (SDC) improvement funds.
What’s next: Staff will finalize contract documents and coordinate traffic control plans to minimize disruption during the school year and special events.
