Redmond council approves Timmins implementation and Trimble Unity license for city asset management

The Redmond City Council approved contracts to implement an enterprise asset-management system that city staff said will centralize infrastructure data and improve decision-making on maintenance and capital projects.

Jessica McClanahan, director of public works, said the city has budgeted for the project and that the contracts before council would bring professional services and the Trimble Unity software into use: a $456,013.75 professional services agreement with Timmins Group to migrate data and establish business processes and a three-year, $150,000 software license with Trimble Unity.

"At the completion of the professional services contract before you tonight, we will have all of our asset data transferred into this new Trimble Unity software," McClanahan said, adding that the project is intended to modernize from paper to a single digital "source of truth" for operations and reporting. Levi Roberts, the public works data and asset manager, said the city ran an RFP that drew 14 vendor responses and shortlisted four firms before selecting Timmins as the implementer.

Councilors asked about training, data ownership and hosting. Levi said the vendor's training plan was robust and that the city budgeted for far greater training time than a comparable benchmark. On data ownership, staff said the city will retain its GIS data on city servers while Trimble will host cloud services for other application functions; Jessica emphasized that the city "owns the data." The motions to award the Timmins contract and enter the Trimble Unity license agreement were moved and approved by voice vote.

Next steps: staff will begin implementation and data migration under the Timmins professional services agreement and proceed with Trimble Unity onboarding and training.
