Assessor says future Eagle View aerial flight funding needs county decision; FY2026 payment to shift to supervisors

Emmet County Assessor LuWanda Towell told the Board of Supervisors on May 26 that the county needs to settle who will pay for future Eagle View aerial flight services and that for the current FY2026 flight the county will absorb portions previously funded by E911.
Towell said the Eagle View flight scheduled in FY2029 could be canceled if the Emmet County Conference Board approves such an action. She said that for the FY2026 payment being processed June 9, E911 will pay its portion "for the last time" and that the Board of Supervisors will pay the county's remaining share. Towell said she will reach out to the City of Estherville to invite municipal participation in future cost-sharing discussions.
Supervisors agreed to revisit the Eagle View funding question at an upcoming meeting before the end of June 2026 and to determine which county departments will contribute to any future cost share.
The board did not take a recorded formal vote on canceling future flights during the meeting; Towell framed the options and the board set a follow-up timeline for decision-making.
