Millburn board elects Abby Speltz president and Priya Shivani vice president in reorganization meeting

The Millburn Township School District Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 5, 2026, electing Abby Speltz as board president and naming Priya Shivani vice president.

A board member nominated Speltz for president; the nomination was seconded and the board conducted a roll call vote that yielded the election. After the vote the president-elect thanked the board, saying she was “honored” by the trust placed in her and promising to “do everything I can to live up to those expectations and to put everything I have into doing what’s best for our students and our district.”

At the same meeting the board also nominated and closed the floor for a vice-presidency nomination; Priya Shivani was nominated and seconded. A separate motion to reapprove reorganization items G1 through G9 — routine motions carried over from the May 19 meeting intended to allow the board and administration to operate under previously approved authorizations until the new board acts — was moved, seconded, and approved in roll call. One member, Jeffrey Casson, was recorded as abstaining on the reapproval vote; the chair declared the motions passed.

Board members read aloud the code of ethics for board members, covering duties such as upholding laws and regulations, appointing qualified personnel, maintaining confidentiality where disclosure would cause harm, and referring complaints to the superintendent before acting at public meetings. The reorganization votes set the leadership and preserved the district’s administrative continuity while the new board transitions into its duties.

The meeting proceeded to a public-comment period and was later adjourned.
