TMI Education presents draft strategic plan framework to Millburn board

Rich Panucci of TMI Education told the Millburn Township Board of Education on April 6 that a broad core-planning team of 50–70 students, parents and staff developed a draft mission, values and five focus areas for a new strategic plan.

Panucci said the team produced a mission statement “to prepare resilient, capable learners who think critically, act compassionately, lead ethically, communicate effectively, and evolve confidently,” and identified five focus areas: student safety and wellness; teaching and learning; leadership and governance; community and culture; and finance and facilities. He described a “dream versus reality” analysis used to compare observable indicators of success against existing data, and said the work yielded 30–40 concrete indicators for the district to track.

Board members asked how Millburn compares with other high-performing districts; Panucci said turnout and community passion were notable while priorities such as student life balance and essential skills aligned with peers. Dr. Diskin and other board members thanked students and staff who participated and noted that the core team will translate long-range goals into annual objectives and staff-led action plans. Panucci said the consultants will present a final, culminating strategic plan in June.

The district plans follow-up steps that include breaking each long-range goal into year‑one initiatives, assigning responsibilities and setting milestones. The board did not take formal action on the plan at the April 6 meeting; presenters described the update as a progress report and previewed a final recommendation in June.
