Madison board appoints John N. Connolly as superintendent, contract runs to 202‑2031

The Madison Board of Education voted to appoint John N. The board authorized the president and the business administrator/board secretary to execute the employment agreement on the board's behalf.
Connolly, who the board described as the unanimous top candidate after a search that reviewed 34 applicants and multiple interview rounds, addressed the meeting after the vote. "I'm deeply honored, excited, and humbled to rejoin the Madison Public School community as the next superintendent," he said, thanking the board and his family and saying he looks forward to working "collaboratively with students, teachers, administrators, board members, families, and the community."
The board's announcement summarized the search process: three rounds of interviews (45 minutes for an initial field, 90 minutes for finalists, and a final multi-hour presentation and roundtable), review of references and a focus on district priorities including fiscal management, student achievement, special education and community engagement. The resolution reads that the board "appoints John N. Connolly . . . as the superintendent of schools for the Madison School District" and authorizes signature and implementation steps required by state education law.
The appointment comes as the district continues budget work and a public budget hearing is expected in April. The board did not discuss details of the employment agreement during the public session beyond the resolution read into the record.
