Superintendent highlights student and staff achievements, introduces two administrative hires

At its meeting the Flemington-Raritan Regional School District recognized student readers and a county counselor-of-the-year, and the superintendent introduced two administrative hires — Tanya Lopez Gonzalez for curriculum and Dr. Tara Santanello for special services — for board approval.
Acting Superintendent Dr. Burns opened the meeting by welcoming families and recognizing student and staff achievements across the district.
Dr. Burns invited preschool students and Amanda Cahill, director of early childhood preschool, to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and recognized two student winners of the Hunterdon County Librarians Association Enthusiastic Reader Award: Copper Hill fourth-grader Taylor Shammy and Reading Club sixth-grader Ford Whitley. Dr. Burns said both students will be celebrated at an awards ceremony on May 20 at the Hunterdon County Library.
The board also recognized Rebecca Morey, Copper Hill School counselor, who was named Hunterdon County School Counselor of the Year. Dr. Burns highlighted her leadership of a Copper Hill backpack program that supports about 50 families and credited PTO and community donations for sustaining the effort.
Dr. Burns introduced two administrative hires slated for board approval: Tanya Lopez Gonzalez as director of curriculum and instruction (noting previous roles in Allendale and Livingston) and Dr. Tara Santanello as director of special services (reviewing her doctoral and specialist credentials and prior district roles). Both candidates were presented to the board and public for approval this evening.
The superintendent also reviewed items of community engagement and district celebrations, including appreciation weeks, the upcoming retirees event on May 13, and the 10th anniversary color run on May 17.
