Madison board approves consent slate, adopts harassment-policy update and discusses scoreboard sponsorship

The Madison Board of Education approved a series of consent items and took several procedural actions during its public meeting.
On the superintendent's recommendation the board voted by roll call to approve RA 25-26-8, BA 25-26-38 to 40 and EC 25-26-21. Subsequent human-resources items (HR 25-26-79 to HR 25-26-87 and an addendum HR 25-26-88) and finance-and-facilities slate items were also approved by roll call. The roll calls recorded affirmative votes from President Kelly Browning, David Duran, Lisa Ellis, Eric Fontes, Nancy Novak and Dr. Tindall on the motions presented.
During finance and facilities discussion members noted that enclosure items 114 and 115 were not attached to the public agenda packet but were available for review at the board meeting. The board discussed a procurement approach for a new softball-field scoreboard; administrators and committee members described plans to solicit vendor proposals for a sponsorship/concession arrangement and said the estimated scoreboard value is about $120,000. "What we're hoping to do is to find a vendor that will essentially pay the cost for the scoreboard on the softball field," a committee member said; the board reserved the right to reject proposals that do not meet its standards.
On policies, the board motioned to table several sections to allow greater public review. An exception was made for a time-sensitive revision to policy 5512 (Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying): the policy was amended to add a notice informing the public that "any person who believes their rights under the LAD law against discrimination have been violated may contact the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights" with phone and web contact information and a 180-day filing window. The board approved that policy change by roll call.
The referendum committee also reported progress on capital projects (asbestos abatement, ceiling and lighting renovations, MHS flooring, CAS and KRS HVAC work, ADA upgrades and high-school gym/roof priorities). The board adjourned at about 8:36 p.m.
