Board honors retirees, students and coaches as school year winds down

The board reserved much of its meeting to recognize students, coaches and retiring staff as the school year ends.
Student representatives reflected on skills gained from serving on the student school board and listed upcoming events including choir concerts and graduations. One student said the Educational Foundation's scholarship banquet had given "about $600,000 this year," and Superintendent Dr. Zambrino later cited the foundation's report that 133 graduating seniors earned $614,900 in scholarships.
Athletics and activities staff reported spring highlights: Brady Krueger said 108 seniors lettered and 14 were continuing athletics at the collegiate level and noted the Strive for Packer Pride fundraiser raised over $10,000 to support participation fees. Coaches from softball, track, tennis and golf described sectional competition schedules and individual accomplishments.
The board also honored dozens of retirees across the district: long‑serving custodial and facilities staff, teachers, special‑education staff and coaches were recognized with remarks from building principals and certificates of appreciation. Facilities director Mark Fenton singled out five facilities employees (Michelle Penman, Pat Oster, Larry Lowe, Lauren Laternis, Gary Morissette) and described their years of service.
Directors and the superintendent thanked staff and volunteers and reminded the community of summer programs (free meals June 15–July 24) and upcoming graduation dates.
