Cathedral City to buy Meridian mobile barriers for downtown events, staff says $189,225 quote

The Cathedral City City Council unanimously approved the purchase of a Meridian mobile barrier system intended to speed event setup and improve public safety downtown.
Public works analyst Luis Perez explained the city quoted a full buildout for four deployment locations and described the Meridian Archer 1,200 barriers and supporting equipment. "The total cost is a total of $189,225.1 to purchase a quantity of 21 Meridian mobile barriers," Perez said; staff also identified a program budget item of $94,612.55 and proposed a corresponding budget adjustment using the Environmental Conservation Fund to cover costs across fiscal years.
Perez told council the barriers reduce reliance on labor‑intensive cones, K‑rails and barricades and allow faster deployment by fewer staff. The quote includes the barriers, deployment equipment, safety cable system, ADA cable protection and a graphics package with city branding.
Council members asked procedural questions about locations and funding; no public speakers addressed the item. Council Member Lam moved to approve the purchase and Council Member Gordon seconded. The motion passed by unanimous roll call vote.
Staff will authorize the city manager to execute documents necessary to complete the purchase and will coordinate delivery and deployment planning with police, fire and event staff.
