Participants at the joint training discussed which CARES (values) pillar most matters for serving Midway; several tables selected ethics and integrity as foundational.
"Without ethics, none of the other things would really matter," one table participant said, and speakers argued integrity supports effective public service and public trust. A participant who attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy quoted the midshipman code: "A midshipman will not lie, cheat, or steal," using it as an aspirational model for local officials.
Speakers also raised the towns heritage: several founding families were named as having built the community, and participants urged preserving open space and traditions such as Swiss Days so new residents learn local history. The facilitator closed by urging engagement: read the general plan, attend site visits and reach out to staff when questions arise.
No formal policy or ordinance emerged from the values discussion; it served as training and a community reaffirmation of priorities.
