Residents urge RTM to fund long‑delayed golf‑course restrooms; speakers cite accessibility and expiring grant

Cindy Lathrop, a North Stonington resident, said she had been a member for more than 25 years and described the course staff and maintenance crew favorably. Lathrop said the proposed CIP lists $350,000 for restroom and related site work and that the figure covers two restrooms, a storage area, a bottle filler and additional items including a fire suppression system for the maintenance building. She told members that a $70,000 grant listed under construction has been on the books since at least 2023 and will expire if not used by the end of this year.
Madeline Illinger, president of the Chennakosset Women’s Golf Association, urged the RTM to fund the Hole‑8 restroom project in the 2027 budget, arguing the lack of facilities is an accessibility barrier—especially for women and older players. Illinger said prefabricated concrete restroom units designed for parks and courses can be significantly more affordable than traditional construction, estimating a typical two‑room unit at about $60,000 to $120,000 depending on site work and utility connections.
Both speakers asked the RTM to include the project in the capital improvement program and to act so a small, previously awarded grant will not lapse. The moderator recorded the comments for the public record and thanked the speakers.
