La Porte redevelopment commission affirms Boyd Boulevard amendments, including Microsoft designation

The City of La Porte Redevelopment Commission on May 27, 2026, unanimously approved a resolution confirming amendments to the declaratory resolution and economic development plan for the La Porte Consolidated Economic Development Area (Boyd Boulevard allocation area).

Bert Cook, executive director of the La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership, read the resolution into the record and said the 2026 resolution “designate[s] Microsoft Corporation and its successors or assigns or any affiliates of the company and their successors or assigns as a designated taxpayer for purposes of Indiana code 36-7-14-39.3.” Cook told commissioners the item had already cleared the La Porte Plan Commission and the city common council and that staff had published notice as required.

Cook said the Plan Commission issued its order approving the 2026 resolution on April 14, 2026, and the common council adopted a supporting resolution on April 20, 2026. He summarized the procedural history and said the commission had received proof of publication for the May 13 notice and no written remonstrances to the action.

After hearing no public comment, a commissioner moved to confirm the findings and determinations in the 2026 resolution and to take final action under section 17(d) of the Act. The motion was seconded and passed by voice vote, 5-0. The resolution directs the commission secretary to record the final action in accordance with the statutory requirements cited in the resolution.

Why this matters: The resolution reconfirms the legal and administrative framework for the Boyd Boulevard allocation area and formally records the commission's finding that the amendments are of public utility and benefit, a necessary step for the local redevelopment process. The commission did not receive written remonstrances and closed the public hearing without comment.
