At its May 26 meeting the Martinsville Common Council adopted Ordinance 2026-1914 on second reading, repealing Chapter 18 of the municipal code — the city’s peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants regulations — after staff said the rules were no longer applicable.
City counsel presented the ordinance as a staff-requested repeal; a council member made a motion to adopt and another council member seconded. Chair called for the question, members answered “aye,” and the chair announced the motion carried.
Following the adoption a member of the public asked whether the city would inform residents about the change and how homeowners could opt out of peddlers; the chair said staff would work on outreach with city administration.
The repeal took immediate effect under the council’s normal ordinance-adoption procedures; the council did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes beyond the voice vote.
