Lake Stevens officials recap DC advocacy trip and list federal project requests

Deputy Clerk Caitlin Weaver and other city officials briefed the council May 26 on a May 4 advocacy trip to Washington, D.C. The delegation included council members Edwards, McManus and Jorstad, city administrator Jean Bridal, public works director Aaron Halverson and deputy clerk Weaver. Staff said they met with the National League of Cities, U.S. Department of Transportation, federal representatives’ offices and congressional staff to present white papers on Lake Stevens projects.
Projects highlighted in the packet included US 2 trestle needs, a 79th Avenue SE/24th Street SE extension (near Caballero), Bayview Trail extension, Main Street and 20th Street NE improvements, a 36th Street bridge replacement and Hartford Stream restoration. Weaver said the meetings yielded information on potential grant programs and next steps; Jean Bridal reported that a separate sewer-stub grant application moved to the second step of the funding process.
Council members said the trip helped raise Lake Stevens’ profile in federal offices and noted staff will continue pursuing funding and coordinating regional partners where appropriate. No formal action was taken.
