Berlin police approve March expenses; department discusses taser replacements and training

The representative said the department found a source for the taser models it currently uses and estimated that moving the entire department to a mid-level replacement would cost about $44,000. “If we were changing to the middle ground ... it would be about $44,000 for our department,” the police representative said.
Commissioners asked questions about the expense items and then moved to approve the March police expenses; the motion passed by voice vote. The representative also noted a pending small rural/tribal body-worn camera grant for which the department has not yet received notice of award.
The police report included upcoming training plans: ballistic-shield certification, property and evidence management training, emergency vehicle operations and firearms training. The department said five property-damage crashes this month were parking-lot related and that OWI-related incidents have required more paperwork and processing time.
Votes taken during the meeting included approval of March minutes, an alarm permit for Tiffany Williams, the fire department expenses, the police department expenses and a motion to adjourn; all were recorded as carried by voice vote in the transcript, with no numerical tallies provided.
