Berlin fire department reports 12 March calls, approves March expenses and seeks turnout-gear grant

The Berlin Police and Fire Commission voted April 1 to approve the March 2026 fire department expenses after hearing a monthly report from the department.
A fire representative summarized March activity, saying the department responded to 12 calls in March, including a mutual-aid run in Princeton, a backcountry recovery, several false alarms, a truck fire and a rollover. The representative also described maintenance and training work: annual SCBA face-piece testing, compressed-air-foam nozzles added to Engine 64, purchase of two SCBA face pieces for new members, and recent live burn/extrication training.
The representative said the department will apply for a Firehouse Subs grant, with the funds earmarked for turnout gear if awarded. “In April, we’ll be applying for a Firehouse Subs grant. We’re gonna put it towards turnout here if we are lucky enough to receive it,” the department representative said.
Commissioners asked no substantive questions on the report and approved the recommended March expenses by voice vote.
The fire report also listed upcoming trainings: sprinkler-system procedures and a technical rescue drill involving vehicle scenarios and line-of-sight challenges. The department noted ongoing preparations for wildland season.
