Parks commission keeps nonprofit facility rental fees unchanged, urges clearer fee documentation

"At this point, staff's not recommending any changes to how we fund the parts," said Reese, who spoke for staff during the agenda item. Staff described a possible framework for nonprofits to request a waiver or reduction, and commissioners asked how often such requests arise and whether the practice is widespread enough to warrant referral to the Berlin Common Council.
Several commissioners, and the chair in particular, expressed concern that past discounts or special pricing had not been consistently documented. One commissioner thanked staff member Sue for researching past interactions with groups and urged that a clearer, searchable record be maintained so future commissioners are not forced to re-litigate the same questions.
Staff said the current fee schedule will remain in place and that the commission can request the item be brought back if requests for special rates increase. No motion to change the fee schedule was filed at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will maintain documentation of prior fee decisions and track future requests so the commission can revisit the policy if patterns change.
