State reimbursement boost lets Chappaqua offer full pre-K; board reviews Healthy Kids RFP and CSF grants

District staff told the Chappaqua Central School District Board on May 20 that recent state funding updates make universal pre-K enrollment feasible and allow the district to cover program costs.
Josh (speaker 9), who discussed the RFP submissions, said the district’s current provider, Healthy Kids, submitted an RFP to operate up to eight pre-K classrooms at a proposed provider rate of $5,400 per student. He said the district just received an updated state reimbursement rate of $10,000 per student, which "allows us to then pay for things like supplies and furniture and the use of our facilities, to be able to provide pre k for all of the students that have signed up."
Administrators told the board this reimbursement gap would fund non-instructional costs associated with offering additional pre-K seats. The board did not adopt a final contract at the meeting but reviewed the RFPs and placed related items on the consent agenda for routine approval.
The board also heard details about recent grants. Presenter Adam (speaker 10) described three Regeneron scholars who won $2,000 scholarships apiece and said the district will receive $2,000 per student winner to be used in the science research fund, yielding a $6,000 district award in this instance. Trustee reports and CSF representatives described several CSF-funded purchases—robotics kits, chomp saws, 3-D pens and an inflatable planetarium—intended for STEAM and elementary science learning.
No new contracts for pre-K were finally executed at the meeting; staff said they will proceed with RFP review and return recommendations under the consent agenda process.
