Council hears details on city music event contract and requests committee review

Council members pressed the administration for details about a proposed musical artist contract listed on the agenda, asking whether the $26,700 figure included rider buyouts, production costs and staging.
Events staff explained the promoter largely fronts backline and equipment and that the city typically pays for staging; "they're paying for their own back line...they're paying for their own equipment to come," the staff member said. Council members estimated that when standard stage rental is included the total on-site cost could reach roughly $36,000.
Several members asked for a larger planning discussion. "On June 9, the economic culture and civic development committee would like to meet as a whole so that we can gather more information and really create a bigger vision," a councilwoman said. Council agreed to schedule the committee follow-up and to explore budgeting and longer-term contracting for regular May and August events.
Council also asked staff to provide fuller cost breakdowns and to clarify whether events will be bid out for production and staging in the future.
