Summer EBT (Sunbucks) will not run in 2026; agencies say prepare for 2027

Utah's Child Nutrition Program (CMP) staff told LEAs that Summer EBT (branded internally as Sunbucks) will not be operated in summer 2026 because the Department of Workforce Services did not secure the required 50% state administrative funding from the legislature.
CMP presenter Tammy said participation depended on DWS securing half of the state administrative match; that did not happen this year. CMP and DWS will continue to work through budget considerations with an eye toward operating Sunbucks in summer 2027. Tammy urged LEAs to resolve free‑and‑reduced eligibility S5 records and related warnings before school year 2026–27 because CMP plans to use S5 records for the next summer program.
Practical guidance: CMP staff provided contact information and recommended LEAs complete S5 records for students with free and reduced price eligibility in school year 2026–27, and to check vendor retention schedules and related SIS changes to identify directly certified students and report opt‑out information correctly.
