Benzie County joins opioid remnant settlement and earmarks $50,000 to Butterfly Foundation

On May 12 the Benzie County Board of Commissioners voted to participate in a nationwide opioid settlement identified in the record as the Six Remnant Defendant Settlement (CL-2018919) and authorized related resolution 2026-014.
Later in the meeting the board approved allocating $50,000 from the county opioid settlement fund to the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation to support community opioid-response work. The motion, made by Commissioner Tim Markey and seconded by Commissioner Rhonda Nye, allows for an initial $50,000 allocation and up to two additional annual renewals contingent on reporting and a board presentation. Funding availability was identified as coming from the county opioid settlement fund.
Undersheriff Greg Hubers and Benzie Central School Superintendent Amiee Erfourth were present and answered commissioners’ questions about the foundation’s work. Both board actions passed by roll call with unanimous support.
