Residents praise police visibility at school dismissal, press trustees on sustainability and tree planting timelines

Margaret Frank thanked Interim Chief Weber and Officer Schram for being present near South Main and Hulbert during school dismissal at Brooks Hill Elementary, saying the officers’ presence both increased safety and provided positive community visibility. "It would be great to see them more often," she said, and encouraged similar morning shifts when feasible.
Luke Wells, representing Color Fairport Green, pressed the board on when it would begin work on action items from the sustainability plan the board-appointed committee submitted; he said Mayor Damorex had promised to present the energy, procurement and environmental action items and asked when the board would start that work. The mayor said the village intends to begin after completing the zoning‑code project and that a work session date would be set by the end of the meeting.
A resident asked about the Main Street streetscape tree planting schedule; trustees said the streetscape work is substantially complete and tree plantings will begin later in the fall and could extend into December depending on ground conditions. The DPW noted some plantings can proceed even after the first snow, and staff will update the village website with timing details.
Trustees also reported on recent village activities including DRI submissions, a canal bicentennial weekend that included a Seneca chief reception and a small parklet dedication, and repaving projects. The board discussed planning a Main Street ribbon cutting once construction and planting are complete.
The board said it will continue to coordinate with committee volunteers and planner Jill Wiedrick on sustainability and tree standards, and will include zoning and (if time permits) sustainability items at the next work session.
