Board approves student travel, CTE plan, surplus resolutions and routine vouchers

At its May meeting the Prosser School District board approved a series of routine and student‑program items.

Key votes

- Out‑of‑state travel for Prosser High School students to attend the 2026 National History Day (NHD) Nationals was approved by voice vote after a motion and second.

- The board approved three GEAR UP summer trips (Florida NASA/Kennedy Space Center trip June 20–24; Arizona trip that includes Arizona State University and University of Arizona and Biosphere 2 June 29–July 2; and a Central Washington University trip to Ellensburg June 29–July 2). Jose, the Gear Up site manager, described student selection and off‑site request procedures; the motions passed by voice vote.

- The district approved the CTE four‑year plan, which adds classes (floral design and exercise science), uses Perkins funding and a $20,000 Battelle contribution to replace engineering lab computers; the plan was approved by voice vote.

- The board adopted Resolution 0726 (surplus equipment and supplies) and Resolution 0826 (technology surplus and recycling). Sean explained most older computers will be recycled to a vendor and the district will obtain a certificate of destruction because staff do not break hard drives in‑house.

- The board approved the second/final reading of policy 6113, routine vouchers, two emergency teaching certificates and consent items by voice vote.

Votes and procedures: Most items were approved by motion, second and voice vote; the transcript records trustees saying "aye" on each measure and the chair declaring the motion carries. Where a roll‑call form was used, individual names were not consistently included in the transcript record. The board did not take any controversial or unexpected votes at this meeting.
