The Woodson County Board of Commissioners voted May 12 to allow Road & Bridge to buy a federal-surplus dump truck for $13,000 and to authorize building repairs estimated at $15,635.
Commissioner Justin Clark presided over the meeting of the Woodson County Board of Commissioners. Road & Bridge staff member Gary Ward presented photographs and pricing for the surplus dump truck and said staff Todd Green and Ricky Hodges inspected the vehicle and found it to be in good condition. Commissioner Kevin Stuber moved to allow the purchase; Commissioner Jerry Sedlacek seconded and the motion passed.
Ward also reported the county's current John Deere mower was purchased in 2013 and recommended gathering pricing for a commercial Hustler mower. He suggested the Courthouse, Fair Building, Road & Bridge and Noxious Weed departments share the cost; Ward said he would gather quotes for consideration at the next meeting.
Ward presented an estimate from Shepard's of $15,635.00 to replace three 10x10 doors, associated framing, windows and gutters at the Road & Bridge building, to be paid from the county Building Fund. Commissioner Kevin Stuber moved to allow Road & Bridge to complete the repairs; Commissioner Justin Clark seconded and the motion passed.
The department said it will remove two trees at Owl Creek Cemetery to improve equipment access and has begun dust-control applications. Due to extremely dry conditions, graders are being pulled from some roads; commissioners discussed the potential for substantial ditching work if the dry spell continues.
The board directed staff to return with mower quotes and other supporting details at a future meeting.
