South Sevier Senior Center president reports accounting issues, facility improvements and fundraising

Mary Kay Outzen, president of the South Sevier Senior Citizens Advisory Board, presented the board’s monthly report to the Monroe City Council on May 12.
Outzen said she found the Senior Citizens program funds had been commingled with Nutrition Program funds and that the board’s audit committee discovered the books were not balancing. She said the discrepancy had been assigned to a board member for resolution and that the board expected it to be reconciled by the June monthly meeting.
Outzen outlined other items: the board is publishing meeting minutes and agendas for greater transparency, adopted a new motto — "Teamwork makes the dream work" — and thanked the city for installing a new basement toilet at the senior facility (noting volunteer Dale Woolsey would oversee cleanliness). The board continues fundraising for a new building and reported a recent $500 donation.
