Topsham approves ATV enforcement and education grant partnership with Warden Service

Chief of Police Mark Hagan explained the grant covers enforcement and education on the town’s roughly 16 miles of trails and occasionally public‑road ATV activity. Hagan said the program is administered by the Warden Service, reimburses the town for eligible expenditures and would cost the town nothing up front; the department would submit receipts periodically for reimbursement. The requested sum discussed was roughly $4,000 for local enforcement activities.
The board moved, seconded and approved the partnership without comment. The approval authorizes the Police Department to apply for and accept the grant and to partner with the Wardens for trail enforcement and education this summer.
Next steps: The Police Department will submit the grant application and follow the Warden Service’s reimbursement procedures if the award is made.
