The Canton commission approved an audit engagement letter with ELO CPAs and Advisors for the annual audit for the year ending Dec. 31, 2025. Staff said the firm anticipates fees of approximately $24,000 plus out-of-pocket costs, an increase from the roughly $17,000 recorded for the prior year.
Commissioners discussed the shrinking pool of municipal auditors, the additional time and cost associated with single-audit requirements and the practical challenge of contracting for federally sensitive audits. A staff member noted that the single-audit requirement was triggered because the city’s federal grant receipts exceeded the statutory threshold and that any significant additional time would be discussed with the city before added costs were incurred.
A motion to approve the engagement carried on roll call. Commissioners noted the higher cost but agreed to proceed with the firm, with the understanding that ELO would consult before incurring extra charges beyond the estimate.
