AP Access for All presents free online AP course program to Scott County Board

Jill James, assistant director for AP Access for All, told the Scott county board she was seeking a partnership to bring free, online Advanced Placement courses to Scott County students. James said the nonprofit program, delivered by the Niswonger Foundation, offers 22 asynchronous AP courses taught by Tennessee‑licensed, College Board‑certified AP teachers and that course enrollment and exams are provided at no cost to students and families.
James told the board the program has enrolled about 2,000 students this school year, has served nearly 8,000 students in five years, posts an 85% course pass rate, and has produced a 46% growth in qualifying exam scores. “We currently have 22 advanced placement courses offered to high school students,” James said, and noted the program has generated roughly $4,000,000 in potential college savings and nearly 10,000 potential college credits for participating students.
James emphasized that AP Access for All is intended to complement, not replace, dual enrollment programs. She said she has discussed the program with Scott High School counselors and that AP and dual enrollment “work quite well together.” James left printed materials and her business card for board members and invited questions or follow‑up.
The board did not take formal action on the presentation during the meeting; members thanked James for the information.
