Scranton council adopts recreation-authority appointment, approves North Main land plan and introduces sinkhole easement, paving and donation measures

The Scranton City Council on May 5 adopted the appointment of Joseph Loftus to the Municipal Recreation Authority and approved a land-development plan for 1721 North Main Avenue, while introducing multiple administrative measures for committee review.
Council President Shuster recommended final passage of item 7a, the appointment of Joseph Loftus to replace Norma Jeffries on the Municipal Recreation Authority. Council members praised Loftus’s commitment: "He's a great guy, and I think he'll do a great job and be a great asset to the board," said Council member Sean McAndrew during the discussion.
On the same roll call, the council adopted item 7b, a plan revision for new land development at 1721 North Main Avenue. The clerk recorded the roll call and the chair declared both items legally and lawfully adopted.
Separately the council moved to introduce several items into their proper committees for review: a temporary construction easement agreement for parcel at 2709 Jackson Street to allow sinkhole repair; a resolution appointing Samuel Kuchwara to the Municipal Recreation Authority (to replace Dylan Cawley, term to expire 12/31/2027); authorization for the mayor and officials to execute a contract with American Asphalt Paving Company for the city's spring paving; a resolution ratifying a donation to the city from Crayola LLC; and authorization of a letter of engagement with Maher Dessel to perform the annual independent audit for the city’s Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) trust. Each item was moved, seconded and advanced for committee consideration.
