The resolution requires elected officials and staff to pledge to “serve others and not ourselves, use resources with efficiency and economy, treat all people fairly, [and] create an environment of honesty, openness, and integrity,” Bender said in reading the measure. The council voted 6–0 to approve the resolution.
The mayor said the program is intended to formalize standards of conduct for local officials and eligible cities may participate in the GMA certification process. Council members did not request amendments or conditions during the discussion, and no members spoke in opposition during the meeting.
The resolution passed with no recorded no votes. The council did not set a separate timeline in the meeting for completing the GMA certification steps; staff will follow GMA procedures for next steps, the mayor said.
