Assistant Superintendent Hildebrandt told trustees that the fire-alarm system at the Lutz leased property is antiquated, not repairable and must be replaced to meet lease responsibilities and tenant safety needs. "It is the original fire alarm ... from the 1960s, and the panel is outdated. We have to do this," Hildebrandt said.
Staff said they put the work out for bid, received multiple quotes and will recommend Great Lakes Power & Lighting as the lowest responsible bidder. The recommendation to the board will be for approximately $123,000 plus the district’s standard 10% contingency for unforeseen work. Hildebrandt said this will be brought forward as an action item at the next meeting and funded from the bond program as required under the lease. Trustees asked contractors and technical staff to clarify whether replacement devices would integrate with remaining building systems and whether similar replacements have been completed in other buildings (staff said many instructional buildings have new alarms, but Lutz needs addressing).
