Superintendent says storm repairs cost about $200,000; board told of $153,000 initial reimbursement estimate

Superintendent Doctor Smith updated the North Pike School District board on storm-related repairs and projected reimbursements, and the board approved a time-only change order for stadium completion.

Doctor Smith told the board the district has "spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $200,000 on repairs" from recent storm damage and said the district received an initial reimbursement estimate of "around a $153,000." He added the district expects to submit additional receipts and that the insurance estimate may not represent a final settlement. "So we're gonna be right there at the break even point," Doctor Smith said, while also noting there may be additional costs that could raise the total before work is finished.

Separately, the board considered a non-financial change order to move the stadium's substantial completion date to June 3. A board member asked whether extending the date would trigger contract penalties; Doctor Smith replied that "there would be no penalties up to this point" because of rain days and other allowances, though he said the schedule remains weather-dependent. The board approved the time change order.

Doctor Smith said some remaining work (including a dugout rebuild) will continue over the summer, with materials arriving and work to continue after school ends. He also noted that funds previously moved from a parking-lot account had been used to cover repairs and that, if the board approves, reimbursement proceeds could be returned to that parking-lot fund.

The board did not take additional binding action on insurance settlement terms; the superintendent said staff will continue to document costs and present updated figures as receipts are finalized.
