District explains move from NWEA to IXL; board questions privacy, screen time and evidence

“This isn’t a brand new implementation for us… we are just going to start using it as our benchmarking tool,” a district presenter said, noting training and district‑level experience with IXL.
Staff cited a district analysis showing students who used IXL improved at a higher rate. “Of our District 20 students who used the IXL tool, we saw those students improve more at a rate of 10.8 percentile points than we did our other students,” one staff member said.
Board members asked several follow‑up questions: how IXL handles student data and third‑party vendors, how a transition may affect growth and achievement comparisons, how screen time would be limited in classrooms, and whether there is strong external evidence that the platform improves mental‑health or long‑term academic outcomes. Staff said vendor contracts and data/privacy questions were evaluated through the district’s RFP/contracting process and that IXL’s reports will be integrated with teacher‑led interventions.
