Board approves increased technology purchasing authority and vendor switch to lower device and parts costs

The Academy District 20 Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Resolution 18726, increasing the district’s aggregate purchasing authority for technology devices to cover scheduled replenishment cycles and off‑cycle departmental/lab purchases.

Zach Mather, the district CIO, told the board the request reflects routine device refresh cycles (typically five years, with some higher‑spec machines on seven‑year cycles) and adds capacity for department and CTE lab replacements. Mather said the district has changed its manufacturer/vendor arrangements to a DHE contract and that the proposed standard devices are roughly 10–15% cheaper than the district’s recent Dell purchases; parts costs for older Dell machines can also be substantially lower under the new arrangement.

“We can get parts at about a third of the cost and in a quicker timeframe,” Mather said, describing expected savings and faster repair turnaround.

Board members asked whether this funding was additional or part of planned cycles; Mather said this is authority the district would have requested anyway but that the vendor change and consolidated contract create savings. The motion passed on a roll call with all voting members recorded as 'aye.'

What this means: The resolution provides authority for the procurement and replacement of classroom and staff devices and for timely repairs; staff said the change should improve device performance consistency and reduce total cost of ownership.
