Board of Education President Nicholas Cia Petta opened the April 21 recap by noting the district recognized First Responders Month in a presentation by Oakwood Primary School.
"This was an opportunity to acknowledge the individuals in our community who stepped forward in moments that matter the most," Cia Petta said, thanking first responders for their presence and commitment.
The board also recognized the district’s varsity girls basketball program, which Cia Petta said returned to being "the best of Suffolk County," winning three Suffolk County championships in the last four years. He noted that the season reflected teamwork, resilience and program strength.
The board additionally honored Michael McGinnis for his varsity wrestling achievements, noting he was crowned Suffolk County champion and placed fourth at the New York State championships.
These recognitions are ceremonial acknowledgments of student and community achievement recorded in the meeting recap.
